2010 Overview

I know many friends, family, clients, colleagues, and acquaintances are relieved to say goodbye to 2009. As an astrologer, I now look to the energies of 2010 to share a preview of coming attractions. Well, I have the proverbial “Good News/Bad News” scenario to report.

The “Good News” for those of you who thrive and do their most creative work in climates of challenge and change, it will be a very good year. Those of you born in the first 10-12 days of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn or have planets in these signs will be challenged to let go of anything blocking you from bringing your gifts out to the world. So prepare for lots of hard work and new directions! Our Pisces friends will experience an abundance of new opportunities this year as Jupiter travels through your sign. The trick is to grab that brass ring.

The “Bad News” is for those souls uncomfortable with change, or desperately hanging on to the past. This year will be challenging as the energies of the breakdown process of all things Capricorn will be cranked up another notch. This intensification will be especially true for our early Capricorn friends born at the end of December. “Transformation” will be your mantra, as the universe mandates you release anything not working in your life and move into your power. Detachment and a sense of humor will be great tools to navigate these waters. Don’t forget to schedule time for rest and play.

2009 began the global breakdown process of unregulated capitalism with a near meltdown of Wall Street. We end 2009 with a powerful Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on Dec. 31st, 2009 signaling the end of a 19 yr cycle and humanity’s readiness to move into a new 19 yr cycle of restructuring on every level. There are no “sacred cows” as everything in our lives, work, environment, health, values, beliefs, business and governments must be assessed for its viability, functionality and sustainability for the needs of humanity and the earth

Simplification, Inspiration and Creativity will be key words for 2010. New energy, new directions and new opportunities are highlighted. The human spirit and ingenuity can excel in this energy! Nothing like a little global crisis to bring out the best in us!

By the summer of 2010, the major outer planets will move into a Cardinal T-square indicating global, humanitarian, environmental, governmental crisis for change. We will continue the Saturn in Virgo/Libra opposition to Uranus in Pisces/Aries from 2009-2010. The first set up of the coming T-Square was when Saturn in Libra first squared Pluto in Capricorn November 15, 2009 with two more exact squares (1/31/10, 8/21/10) indicating continued challenge to/for leadership for balance, fairness, and equity. Repressed groups will take to the streets and the internet.

Our most intense period in 2010 will be between the end of July and mid-August, 2010 as Saturn in Libra opposes Uranus (now in fire sign ARIES) and then both Square Pluto in Capricorn. This is true both in the State of California  and the USA. Things will definitely come to a head by the end of summer.

This T-square also triggers the USA chart indicating a continued impact of and by our country in global affairs. However, Pluto in Capricorn will continue to challenge the US Venus in Cancer (values, money, security, homes, food, families and children) creating a Cardinal Grand Cross. This indicates even more intensification in the mandate to change our values and financial systems. There will probably be a new wave of individual and corporate bankruptcies, job losses, foreclosures and a need to extend unemployment benefits.  Earth changes such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding can challenge our economy. Issues of clean air, water, and toxicity will need to be addressed. How to deal with terrorism nationally and globally is also part of this energy.

A Grand Cross also represents coming into balance as a result of crisis. This requires hard work, innovative thinking and commitment. It’s reality check time. However, if the powers that be make job creation a top priority in 2010, government and private funding of infrastructure, transportation, new energy, education, and sustainable practices could put millions back to work across the USA and globally.

Another manifestation of a Cardinal Grand Cross including the USA Venus in Cancer will be continuing/deepening crisis in the housing market. The reality of the foreclosures on the market will be felt pulling down real estate values even more in some areas. The social services networks are already overwhelmed with the increases in the ranks of homeless individuals and families as funding on state and national levels are cut.

Hopefully we will find a creative solution to millions of empty homes and millions of homeless.
Loan restructuring may need to be handed back to Bankruptcy Judges, as was done in FDR’s time. Many states (Texas was one) had homestead laws on their books preventing the loss of your primary home even in the event of bankruptcy.

Credit and money have all but dried up for the people and small business, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We became dependent on easy credit and became a nation of impulse spenders. We stopped saving for the rainy day. But the Banking and Insurance industries and Wall Street have continued “business as usual” gaming the system, including outrageous salaries, bonuses and practices that nearly brought the global economy down in the first place.

A book I read a few years ago by Thom Hartman, “Screwed, The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class – And What we Can Do About It” was downright prophetic. The American middle class, labor unions, labor protections, etc. have been quietly dismantled over the past 30 years to create a globally competitive working class. There will be a tipping point where it will be profitable once again for corporations to hire American workers. This may be why we can’t count on real reform from corporate owned governments. Unregulated capitalism eventually results in a global slave class of workers. Profit is the only motive. Corporations will move factories to the cheapest labor.

Much of the global leadership is out of touch with the real needs of the people, or they don’t care motivated by their own greed. Extreme polarization, corruption, and closed-door deals benefiting corporations have become the status quo. It has been painful to watch the dysfunction of our State (California) and Federal governments over the past year….. We really should nominate our Congress and Senate for Academy Awards in the Drama category for their 2009 performances, especially this past summer.

A possible backlash in 2010 will be the emergence of a strong environmental/worker rights/people’s third party. Calls for Constitutional Conventions on state and federal levels may begin to take hold as we move through this year. This energy comes to a head in August, 2010.

The Cardinal Grand Cross indicates we will begin the difficult process of restructuring and changing the laws regulating our financial institutions, corporations, courts, prisons, environment, energy, health, education, military, etc. toward balance and fairness, or face the consequences and possible systems collapse. The “old guard” is fighting for its life, hiding behind its ideology with outrageous, unbelievable and unsustainable denial and outright lies. Fear mongering by those in power may increase, but it will lose its effectiveness as a tool to control the masses before long, if not this year.

The astrological weather forecast for 2010 promises to be an exciting and challenging year. Change will come, either by courageous leadership creating balance, fairness, and real compassionate conservatism, or by the masses regaining their collective power, abandoning the broken systems and recreating balance in their own lives, families, communities, nations and eventually, globally.

Remember, the stars represent the macrocosm of which you are a microcosm. As above, so below……………..Free Will reigns and the Awakening of Humanity is a very good thing! It is an exciting time to be alive!
